Stony Brook Physics & Astronomy: SIMONS FOUNDATION LECTURERS

SIMONS FOUNDATION LECTURERS

in the Department of Physics & Astronomy
Stony Brook University

The Simons Foundation Endowment was established in 1993 by James and Marilyn Simons and their family with the purpose of sponsoring innovative research at the interface of mathematics and physics.

The Endowment enables members of the Department of Physics and Astronomy to explore major new theoretical developments, offering insights into a broad range of issues concerning the structure of matter at the particle, nuclear, atomic and macroscopic scales, and the development of the universe from its earliest moments to the present.

The Simons Foundation Lecturers, brought to Stony Brook on average twice yearly, give our community opportunities to extend our understanding of major new theoretical developments and to provide new research opportunities for the Stony Brook community of physicists and astronomers.

The Simons Foundation Lecturers usually spend a week at Stony Brook and give a capstone lecture, usually on Tuesday afternoons as part of the departmental Colloquium series. They also give more specialized talks as part of the Seminar series of research groups. Recent Simons Lecturers have also given lectures at nearby Brookhaven National Laboratory.
